CREATIVITY AND
TECHNOLOGY: PATHWAY TO INNOVATION

Creativity and technology everything we see was once an idea. Be it a phone, a table, a pen. All these innovations, were once merely imaginations. This means that someone imagined it first and then it came out as something real, something tangible. That imagination with of course the intent to build something new and in its abstract form is creativity. And what brings that imagination into reality is technology. Both of these domains are often misunderstood as completely different paths from one another, but in actual they are interlinked.

From an artist’s soul, I completely understand why these two are seen as discrete, one as if it only belongs to the dreamers and artists and the other to engineers and coders. Just like this most people don’t realise this but they are limiting themselves to think the other way. From the very beginning coders and developers have been imaginative, they have created new worlds and provided solutions to problems that didn’t have an answer before and this shows that they too started with ideas. Here creativity lies in the way they think and what they want to offer to the world wherein technology gives a shape to these thoughts as in how to pursue them.

Lets look at it this way

Think of something as simple as a chair. The idea of creating something  to sit on and relax would have come first. Followed by the questions then : how should it be made, what structure must be considered? How can it be made comfortable, what technique and what material will be used to make it?

All these questions give birth to technology, which puts itself to use and delivers the final product.

Now if creativity is the idea, then technology is the idea that became reality.

Can Creativity Be Called As A Form Of Technology ?

Creativity and technology are associated with problem solving, where one does the ideation part and the other execution part, respectively. Both these systems are incomplete without each other or perhaps creativity is a technology too.

Well let’s break this down :

Creativity is the system of purpose driven thoughts, ideas and imaginations, technology on the other hand is the system of practical tools, operations, machines or solutions, both leading to new innovations. The utmost goal of both is to build something new. So, creativity functions like a form of technology only.

While technology is the practical form of imagination, creativity acts as an abstract mode of technology where ideas and thoughts play the role of tools and mechanisms of the mind.

Tech For Creativity and technology: How It Helps Flourish The Creative Path

In present day scenario, Creativity and technology with its ever-evolving nature, has become a crucial element in almost all the fields. From fashion to business , medical to educational institutions, you name it and the need for technology is there. But with that no compromise has been done with the creative process, in fact it has been improved ever since.

Technology has made easier ways for creativity to be practiced. It supports every phase — from ideation to execution. Brainstorming tools, design and tools for editing. What once required physical tools can today be achieved with various softwares and digital platforms.

We all have witnessed the drastic transformation and the shift of technology where today, musicians can compose even without instruments, managing workplaces online and organising data has become easier with the introduction to AI in business sector.

Moreover, AI tools are assisting filmmaking in a new edge by providing tools for script writing, story boarding and much more alongside the tools for post production.

It has never been any easier than this for artists and illustrators who have access to plenty of tools to express their creativity. Technology has provided an upper hand to the creative journey of professionals. Softwares like Adobe photoshop, lightroom, blender are helping the artists improve their efficiency and letting them experiment with different techniques and styles without the fear of making mistakes. Thanks to technology, it has features like undo!

The Other Side : Often Overlooked

We often ignore the fact that with the advent of Creativity and technology and its extraordinary tools and benefits , some population still can’t access these technologies. Technology is made to upgrade the creative process by making it easy and accessible for all, but not everyone is able to benefit from it. It is said to enhance your creative journey but not all creative people are able to access it. Why? Reasons vary.

These people are aware of something known as technology exists— but don’t know it close enough to benefit from it. These can be elderly or the creative people who have been practiced their art for decades, for say potters, painters, weavers and skilled artisans. They are creative in the truest sense yet they are distant from technology and its wonders.

How Can  Creativity and Technology Make Amends for them?

Simplified digital systems
Community based learning platforms
Hands on training & Workshops
Spreading more awareness

This way, creativity remains intact with technology to better suit and enhance the creative process of elderly artisans in this modern tech world.

We Must Remember :

Creativity and technology are not just tools, they are responsibilities— how should one get it, who should get it, and how it can be made better. With the pace at which technology is transcending, it is a responsibility for the stakeholders to make technology evolve with empathy, creating solutions that align with human values and ethics.

And the future belongs to the those who believe that creativity and technology are collaborative forces rather than separate ones, only then will we realise how most innovation happens.

“According to MIT Technology Review, creativity and technology together drive innovation in industries worldwide.
